For thousands of years people have hunted using the help of trained animals. From bird dogs to falcons, we have benefitted from the power of our animal friends to help put food on the table. The fact that these established traditions still exist is remarkable. Retrievers, pointers, flushing dogs and scent hounds are all still used to help in the hunt even today.
Raptors and the art of falconry are of particular interest to me. Birds of prey dominate the sky and are some of the most magnificent creatures on earth. Falconers still hunt using Red-tailed Hawks, Harris’s Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Cooper’s Hawks and Lanner Falcons just to name a few.
